WHAT'S ON MY SHELF!
Since taking the reader's advisory course in the summer semester, I decided it was time to starting recording what books I have actually read, plan to read or am currently reading. Here are some of my favorite books that I have read! My favorite genre is historical fiction but as you can see, I will read in various genres if the topic interests me! The books I typically enjoy the most are:fast-paced, well-developed characters, strong secondary characters, accurate with a lot of background detail and they must have a character-centered storyline.
HISTORICAL FICTION
Push not the River is one of my all time favorite books, I am constantly suggesting it to all my friends and family to read. It is written by James Conrad Martin who was actually my high school English teacher my sophomore year. It is based on the diary of a 18th century Polish princess.
For historical fiction, it is hard to choose just one so I have decided to include two more of my favorites. I was introduced to the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and could not stop reading them. It combines history of Scotland, and the Americas with very well-developed characters, with a little bit of fantasy with the element of time travel. I am eagerly the next book in the series.
Sarah's Key is written by Tatiana de Rosnay, which has recently been made into a movie. It is the story of a woman journalist who writes about the Vel d'Hiv incident in France where the French police rounded up all of the Jewish people in France and deported them to the concentration camps. It is a moving story that was well portrayed and represented in the film.
MYSTERY
When I am in a lighter mood or want a fast read, I generally tend to choose a mystery. One of my favorite books is Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. It was action packed with many twists and plot changes.
WOMEN'S LIT
I also enjoy Women's Lit and one of my favorite books is Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. It is a heartwarming story of life, relationships, friends and family. I have cried every time I have read this book.
